Hardcore, circuit-bred AMG two-door gets driven to the limit in its natural environment
The road-legal sum of Mercedes-AMG’s expertise in production-based motorsport, the AMG GT R Pro exists for one purpose only: to turn the already rapid GT R into a lap record-smashing track machine.
It might not gain any extra power over the GT R, with 577bhp from its twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8, but a motorsport-inspired suspension overhaul and improved aerodynamics have had a transformative effect. Last year it lapped the Nordschleife in 7min 4.6 seconds, making it one of the fastest front-engined road cars to ever lap the 13-mile Green Hell.
Autocar’s Dan Prosser went to Germany’s Hockenheim circuit to find out what this limited-run special is like in its natural environment.
