Can the purest version of Alpine’s A110 hold a candle to the stripped-back 718 Cayman T?
The Alpine A110 is a different kind of sports car – lighter, more agile, and less powerful than its conventional sports car rivals.
This new 2020 Alpine A110S version, though, is closer than the lesser, standard, A110. With 288bhp it can do 0-62mph in 4.4 seconds and has a top speed of 162mph.
Which makes it closer to the benchmark car in the mid-engined, two-seat sports car class: the Porsche 718 Cayman.
This, then, is the 2020 Porsche 718 Cayman T, the Alpine A110S’s closest rival. It has a 2.0-litre flat four turbocharged engine making 296bhp, can go from 0-62mph in 5.1sec and has a top speed of 171mph.
