Best lease deals of the week: Crossovers

Mini Countryman

All the practicality of a hatchback, with increased ride height. Crossovers have plenty of appeal – here are some of the best deals going

Leasing can be an affordable, practical route into having your own private car, but it’s not always easy to tell the good deals from the duds.

The experts at our sister magazine What Car? work hard to find you the best pay-monthly schemes, taking into account mileage allowance, montly outlay, contract length and initial deposit. We’ll be bringing you the best deals they find from a different segment each week.

This week, it’s convertibles:

1. Suzuki SX4 S-Cross 1.0 Boosterjet SZ4

£1169 deposit, £195 per month, 48 months, 8000 miles per year

Value for money is the S-Cross’s distinguishing feature. It doesn’t handle badly but ride comfort is below par and the rear cabin is cramped. We’d pick this sweet 1.0-litre petrol over the noisy diesel, too.

2. Citroen C3 Aircross 1.2 Puretech Flair

£1073 deposit, £179 per month, 24 months, 8000 miles per year

The Aircross is a fine example of Citroën’s confident design language. It fits the crossover brief with versatile seating, lots of personalisation options and butch detailing. If only it were more fun to drive.

3. Mini Countryman 1.5 Cooper Classic

£1338 deposit, £224 per month, 48 months, 8000 miles per year

The Countryman offers desirability, style and space in spades, with a modicum of off-roading ability thrown in. Some rivals are more refined and have a more composed ride, but few have such a strong image.

4. Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross 1.5 2

£1230 deposit, £205 per month, 24 months, 8000 miles per year

Mitsubishi has distilled its experience of large SUVs into the more compact Eclipse. It is well-equipped and the petrol engine is impressively refined, but its ride needs a little polish and the boot is on the small side.

5. Audi Q2 30 TFSI SE

£1621 deposit, £270 per month, 48 months, 8000 miles per year

Few would accuse the Q2 of being cheap, but at least Audi’s smallest crossover holds its value. The cabin could be roomier but it is classy and user-friendly, and the fun handling is the pay-off for a firm ride.

6. Nissan Juke 1.6 Visia

£907 deposit, £151 per month, 48 months, 8000 miles per year

One of the oldest crossovers still feels fresh thanks to its edgy looks. Rivals have overtaken it in terms of driving pleasure and interior ambience but, for a crossover buyer on a budget, the Juke’s hard to fault.
